Porcelain Veneers

Thin porcelain shells, made for your teeth, that change their color, shape, and length.

Overview

What Veneers Can Change

A veneer is a thin shell of porcelain bonded to the front of a tooth. Because it covers the whole visible surface, it can change a tooth's color, shape, and length at the same time. Veneers are often used on front teeth that are chipped, worn down, spaced apart, slightly uneven, or stained in a way whitening can't reach.

Veneers are part of Dr. Gailey's cosmetic dentistry. Some patients need one or two to match the rest of their smile, and others want a larger change across the front teeth. He starts by asking what you want to change, then explains which options fit: veneers, bonding, whitening, Invisalign, or a combination.

Porcelain doesn't respond to whitening. If you'd like whiter teeth overall, whitening is usually done first, so your veneers can be matched to the new shade.

Benefits

Why Choose This Treatment

Covers Deep Stains

Porcelain covers discoloration that whitening can't lift, including many stains from inside the tooth.

Changes Shape and Size

Veneers can close small gaps, even out chipped edges, and lengthen worn teeth.

Matched to Your Smile

Each veneer is shaped and shaded to match the teeth beside it.

Process

What to Expect

1

Consultation

Dr. Gailey examines your teeth and gums, asks what you want to change, and explains whether veneers or another option fits best.

2

Preparation

A thin layer of enamel is removed from the front of each tooth so the veneer sits flush, and your veneers are made to fit. Removing enamel can't be undone, so those teeth will always need a veneer or another covering.

3

Placement

Your veneers are checked for fit and color, bonded to your teeth, and adjusted until your bite feels right. Porcelain can chip or come loose, and veneers may eventually need to be replaced.
