Dental Fillings

Tooth-colored composite fillings that repair a cavity and blend in with the rest of the tooth.

Overview

Repairing a Cavity

A cavity is a hole in a tooth, made by the acid that plaque bacteria produce. It doesn't heal on its own, and it gets bigger over time. A filling removes the decayed part of the tooth and replaces it with material that seals the tooth and restores its shape.

Dr. Gailey places composite fillings, made from a tooth-colored resin that is matched to the shade of your tooth. Once it's in place, it blends in with the tooth around it. The same material is used to repair small chips and broken edges.

Finding a cavity early keeps the filling small. If decay reaches the nerve, or a large part of the tooth breaks down, the tooth may need a root canal or a crown instead.
